The Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) is planning to see at least 100 of its staff go for an early voluntary retirement.According to the KVDA Managing Director David Kimosop, the move is aimed at paving way for the employment of skilled and competent staff who will propel the authority to a higher level."Currently we are lacking skilled staff such engineers, finance, human resource among others due to the number of staff that we have as it is hard to employ them. The process of sending some staff to early retirement will begin soon after consultations with them is over," Kimosop told the press in Eldoret town on Monday after a meeting with some of the staff."We will not force anyone to retire but it will depend on those who will agree with the early retirement package. Those who will opt to retire will be paid off and those who will decide to remain then we will retain them," he added.KVDA which is a government parastatal has 460 staff but the early retirement exercise seeks to cut the number to at least 300.The authority's MD says over Sh300 million has been set aside to facilitate payment of the staff who will agree to go to early retirement."Those who will accept the offer will be trained on life outside KVDA and how to use they cash we will give them," Kimosop said."The salaries that are currently being paid to our staff are not competitive to the job market. Once this exercise completes we will ensure the remaining staff are well remunerated," he added.
