Speaking on Monday during a tree planting exercise at Mwariki Primary school courtesy of a political aspirant Victor Ngatia, the residents blamed Nakuru’s top leadership, saying it had failed to lay down proper infrastructure mechanisms, that would solve the issue of poor drainage.

“We have been left out in developments as residents of Kwa-Rhonda ward. We elected them, but we done see any developments, we don’t have roads and drainage. The rains have become such a problem to us, because floods from London and Gioto end up in this area. Our children and the old are spending nights in the cold,” Elizabeth Wanjiru, a resident, said.

“We want the national and the county government to help us” she added.

Another resident Muiruri Chege said: “We have a big problem here. The number of disabled children in this area has increased. We only have one primary school and one secondary school here. We don’t have a program that will help those children who are physically challenged attend school, and this makes their parents to lock them inside the house."

However, Ngatia questioned the preparedness of the county government.

“Most are the times when residents of Mwariki sleep outside after their houses fill with water when it rains. We have seen flooding in Nairobi and Mombasa, how prepared is Nakuru county? “If the county government won’t take the responsibility of repairing the drainage system, we shall unite and do it” Victor Ngatia said.
