The County government of Kwale has purchased 128 Metric Tonnes of certified maize seeds for farmers from all the 20 wards at the cost of Sh28.8 million.
Governor Salim Mvurya said the county government's target is to have 800 beneficiaries per ward, to get 8Kgs.
"Our 42 tractors are now busy in the shambas, we also have agricultural extension officers who monitor the ploughing and will also monitor the planting. This is part of our efforts to ensure that our county is food secure," he disclosed.
The County government is also putting up dams for micro irrigation farming.
"Our vision is to ensure the perennial food shortages and poverty gradually levels decrease," he said on Monday as he issued out the seeds to farmers, accompanied by his Deputy, Fatuma Achani.
