Salim Mvurya has declared his next political destination, quitting Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and joining Jubilee.
The governor said he will support President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto ahead of 2017 polls.
“In the next general election, we have said we will vote for those who have stood with us and supported our development agenda,” he said on Saturday.
ODM has so far lost a number of leaders from the Coast region, including Kwale Women Representative Zainab Chidzuga, MPs Gideon Mungaro (Kilifi North), Salim Idd Mustafa (Kilifi South), Masoud Mwahima (Likoni) and Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga) among others.
Not long ago, Raila hailed Mvurya, saying his development record was commendable after his county was named the best spending in the country.
Mvurya has in the past received sharp criticism from Coast leaders such as Hassan Joho and Amason Kingi for working with Jubilee.
