Kwale governor Salim Mvurya has been accused by Coast professionals of betraying Kwale residents by supporting Jubilee.
Mvurya's long-time friend and founding chairman of the Kwale Professionals Forum Issah Chipera has declared he will face the governor in the next general elections.
The former colleague of the Kwale governor at Plan International Kenya has announced that he would challenge his ally-turned-foe because he felt he had betrayed the Lamu electorate.
"Since Governor Mvurya made a statement that he would support Jubilee and asked the electorate to support Jubilee, I have decided to contest the governor's seat on an ODM ticket so as to fill the vacuum," Chipera said during a recent interview while on official duty in Uganda.
"There is a feeling of betrayal in Kwale County and many contenders are certainly going to take advantage by jumping in the political fray in a bid to dethrone the incumbent.
Pwani University political science lecturer Halim Shauri has asked the governor to offer a public apology to the Kwale People.
"It is a delicate position but my advice would be for the governor to apologise to the people of Kwale for making a mistake by asking them to vote Jubilee, and to involve them before making a major political decision like this one," he noted.
"I initially wanted to run for senator and to support Mvurya's gubernatorial re-election but since he has betrayed the Kwale people, I will challenge him for the governorship," Dr Chipera said in an interview offered to a leading local newsroom.
