Independent aspirants in Kwale County have declared support for NASA leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid.

Led by MCA aspirant Zulfa Hassan, the candidates, majority of who were bundled out during ODM nominations said Raila’s leadership was tested and the opposition chief had withered through hard political situations in the country. They said Raila was better placed to transform Kenya.“As independent candidates we want to join the rest of the people in Kwale in campaigning for and voting for Raila Odinga,” she said on Friday flanked by other candidates mostly MCA hopefuls. She said rallying their support for Raila will increase their chances of being elected in the county that the opposition leader enjoys majority support. The soft spoken politician said claims by Jubilee that the ruling party had made inroads in Kwale were false telling President Uhuru Kenyatta to begin preparations to hand over power to Raila after August 8.The opposition NASA coalition still enjoys support in Kwale despite Jubilee’s attempts to lure residents to support Uhuru’s re-election.Politicians from across the country where prominent ODM aspirants lost during the party primary elections have told Raila to freely campaign but let voters independently choose other leaders from governor, senator, woman rep, MP and MCA positions irrespective of their political inclinations.Raila in his campaign rallies has been endorsing specific aspirants and telling voters to support them. During his last tour of Coast region, Raila, together with ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi said NASA will not support independent candidates who ditched NASA-affiliate parties.
