A section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders from Kwale have blamed the Jubilee government and Governor Salim Mvurya for the problems facing Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
Led by Nominated MP Zuleikha Juma, National Council of Imams and Scholars chairman Sheikh Hamisi Banda, Hussein Goza, Shabaan Abdulah and Amana Jirani, the leaders said police are not a personal resource of the government hence should not be used to intimidate the opposition as the August elections draw closer.
Juma said such actions are taking the country back to the KANU regime where opposition leaders where there to be seen not to be heard.
“There is nothing that Joho and the three MPs did to warrant their detention. Jubilee wants to take us back to the Moi era where police were used as personal property," said Juma, as quoted by The Star.
The leaders also blamed Mvurya for celebrating the troubles of Joho, adding that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto want to destablise the region so as to remain in power.
“We know Jubilee wants to cause instability in the Coast region to disrupt voter registration. That will not happen because we know their plan,” she said.
