The battle for the Kwale Senatorial seat may prove to be the make or break moment for the ODM party as the race slowly takes a family face pitting Agnes Zani and her brother Nicholas Zani.
The seat which was left vacant following the death of Senator Boy Juma Boy is becoming the latest flash point that has reignited political wars in the coastal county.
The family of Boy has fronted his younger brother Issa Boy to go for the seat in the August polls, with another faction in the county fronting ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani and yet another one picking Nicholas Zani.
However, a group of ODM supporters from Matuga Constituency seems to be approving Dr Agnes Zani as Boy Juma Boy's successor owing to her political experience, a sentiment that is supported by the Tsimba Golini ODM chairman Hamisi Rachuo.
According to Rachuo, Agnes Zani campaigned for the ODM Secretary General position and as such, she is the right person for the job.
"She has experience unlike others who are being fronted by the families. She has helped the youth," Rachuo said.
Keen to marshall his support base, ODM party leader Raila Odinga ia expected to visit the region on Wednesday in a bid to diffuse the charged atmosphere in the county that Jubilee Party has put on its radar as the race for the August polls intensifies.
