More than 100 women allied to different women groups in Nyamira County have been offered special training on setting businesses from their little savings.
The activity which took place in Nyamira town on Wednesday will be spread to other parts of the county, to equip women with relevant skills in managing businesses.
Kenya Women Finance Trust field manager, Nyamira branch, Agnes Mutua, said a huge number of women access loans from the microfinance but fail to pay back after their businesses fail.
“As a microfinance institution, we thought it was wise for us to equip you with basic business tips which will help you maintain your businesses and guide you to making maximum profits. We are also worried about the increased incidents of people taking loans and failing to return due to their inability to set successful businesses,” she said.
Ms Mutua urged women to save the little they get from their small and medium scale enterprises to prevent possible diversion of the savings to other projects.
“It’s not advisable to run multi projects when you starting a small business. It is my view that you make small savings before you consider expanding your business, as you’re likely to suffer financial constraints,” she added.
She said the women groups would persistently hold training at the grassroots level to ensure best management skills were observed.
“In business, there must be discipline, which entails practising best management skills. We will soon be sampling out regions and visiting them to offer more training hence you must be focused with one business when starting because it will help you to better manage better future businesses that you may venture into,” Mutua said.
