Some residents from Athi River in Machakos County have accused Kenya Wildlife Services officers of deliberately killing a stray Buffalo.
The locals who live at the Portland Villas along Nairobi -Namanga Road protested against the unprecedented killing of the Buffalo near the East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) on Saturday.
The angry residents who demanded for a share of the kill accused KWS of masterminding the killing citing lack of professionalism in the incident
"We are shocked by the way KWS officers are killing harmless wild animals looking for pasture here," resident Joshua Ole Sankale said.
Ole Sankale lamented on the officers' failure to use unconscious dose or traps to nab the beast instead of shooting at it.
The Buffalo was killed within an electric protected zone.
" We demand a share of the kill be given to starving 'wanainchi'," Irene Mwikali said.
The residents said KWS should use human way of taming and controling wildanimals in and out of the parks.
The Buffalo is suspected to had escaped from the Nairobi National Park that is located few metres from the East African Portland Company.
