Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials on Tuesday shot dead a buffalo that had strayed from the Delamare farm into the Ant-Stock Theft Unit compound in Gilgil, causing confusion.
The animal strayed into the compound and badly damaged a vehicle that had been parked in the compound.
The KWS rangers moved with speed and tried to contain the beast that had disrupted peace at the busy unit.
Their efforts were futile as the animal ran all over the compound causing more fear among the staff at the unit.
The rangers were forced to shot the animal that had become unbearable and drove its carcass away.
A senior warden ranger who sought to remain anonymous said the agency is working hard to put in place measures that will ensure wild animals are permanently contained in parks and sanctuaries.
He called on those living close to parks to co-exist peacefully with the animals.
“Our call is to residents to ensure they live peacefully live with these animals,” he said.
Residents living close to Delamare farm complained of straying animals, saying that many people have been left with life-term injuries as a result of attacks.
Moses Kuria told our reporter that his two-acre maize farm was destroyed by a herd of elephants three months ago.
Kuria said he is yet to be compensated by the KWS.
