Despite the government efforts to revive the failing tourism sector, domestic tourism still records low profits.
The government pumped Sh1.2 billion in incentives for chartered airlines to lower travel costs for tourists.
The government, in a bid to revive the tourism sector, also pumped Sh5.2 billion to the tourism recovery program.
Sh2 billion of the money was allocated to Kenya tourism board for marketing. The cabinet secretary for tourism Najib Balala appealed to the Kenya Wildlife Services, KWS to reduce entry fees to the parks and game reserves.
He also appealed to the Kenya Association of Hotelkeepers and Caterers, KAHC to reduce their prices to promote tourism.
The reason why tourism is failing is because national parks and game reserves charge high prices.
Take for example Tvaso national park. The park charges $90 for non-residents and Sh1,200 for residents of East Africa per person per day (pppd).
This is way too much. Game reserve and national park fees should be reduced to promote tourism.
