Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) officers have been urged to install monkey bars/signs across the Southern bypass at Ngong forest near Kibera.
This is after several monkeys have been run over by drivers as they cross the road.
Richard Mukatha said that due to lack of monkey signs on the road, the vehicles moving at high speeds have killed monkeys crossing the road.
"Monkeys are dying every day while crossing the road. The busy southern bypass especially during morning hours and late night when there is no traffic jams, monkeys crossing the road to Ngong forest have been killed by the over speeding vehicles. Installation of monkey bars on this road will make drivers drive slowly since they will be alerted of the crossing monkeys," said Mukatha.
Mary Njeru noted that KWS officers have not put any signs on the road and this has contributed to the many deaths of monkeys in the area.
"Animals crossing roads near forests should be well taken care of. Signs indicating the animals crossing should be installed on this road to save the lives of animals that dies on the road. KWS should act on this matter," she said.
She urged drivers to drive carefully on the road to avoid killing animals.
