Parents who lost their children in Kyanguli Secondary School fire seventeen years ago have urged the government to fast track their compesation.
Speaking during a memorial service held at the school on Monday, the parents lemented that it has been two years since a Nairobi court ruled that they be compensated but up to now they haven't received a cent.
"I know the money can't bring back our kids who perished but at least it can comfort us, it's not much but we appreciate," said one of the parents who sort anonimity for fear of victimization.
A Nairobi court in 2016 awarded the families Sh41 million for the deaths.
Each of the families was to receive Sh650,000 in what the court ruled as negligence.
However, until now their flicker hopes of getting the money are getting dimmer.
Sixty seven students died in the fire, one of the country’s biggest fire death toll to date.
21 others sustained serious injuries while 70 survived from from the dormitory fire of which 200 survivors claimed both doors were locked from outside.
This was evident from the many bodies piled next to a window whose barricade they had been trying to rip off.
