Barely a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the re-opening of the feeder road leading to Lake Naivasha, a section of fishermen plying their trade at the lake have welcomed the move.
A majority who spoke to this writer cursed the closure of the road arguing that it had caused them untold suffering.
Led by Boat Owners Association chairperson David Kiilo, they asked the head of state to visit the area in person and ensure the road is re-opened.
"We still have no reason to celebrate because we live in a country where saying is one thing and doing is another. Our county officials might as well use this as another perfect avenue to swindle funds and leave the road closed," Kiilo said.
"I am speaking on behalf of hundreds of fishermen who were locked out of business after this road was closed because fishing is our only source of livelihood," he added.
Speaking in Karagita on Friday, the president ordered Nakuru County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha to ensure the road is re-opened to allow the residents enjoy the benefits of the natural resource without harassment.
"I have personally instructed the Nakuru county commissioner to open the access road with an immediate effect and report back to me in three weeks time to allow the residents to engage in fishing without harassment," he said.
