[Photo|@citizentvkenya]Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo, has echoed sentiments by Homa Bay County Woman Representative Gladys Wanga, that MPs will not accept pay cuts.Wanga said MPs fight the new state officers and civil servants' salary structure by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), that would see them take home, a pay cut in salaries and allowances.According to Odhiambo, there has been a narrative that MPs take home hefty amounts of taxpayer's money, which she said, is the opposite. She noted MPs have to dig dip into their pockets to cater for the electorates needs in their constituencies, including attending burial ceremonies, footing for hospital bills of some of the residents, and other activities, which they are usually asked to be part of."MPs do not take home the huge amounts of monies that people think. In fact we are hustlers. We hustle to foot for various needs of our constituents. So a pay cut for them, worsens. This people are broke," she said, during JKL show. Also present in the interview was outgoing National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Sotik MP who is now the newly elected Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, who seconded Odhiambo, saying MPs suffer in terms of money."In fact let me tell you that one of the reasons why the Assembly lacks quorum sometimes, is because these MPs are usually out to look for money, so that when weekend comes, it does not find them with empty pockets," said Laboso.Odhiambo further indicated she was not an MP because of poverty, money, but rather public service, and the urge to serve her people."I was spending Sh500,000 to Sh1 million a week during my campaigns. I spend close to Sh200,000 per week in funerals. I can't accept the pay cut. I was very reach before becoming an MP. So I am not an MP because of money," Millie Odhaimbo, said, Wednesday.
