Supporters of Bomet governor Isaac Ruto and those of Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Sotik Member of Parliament Joyce Laboso on Thursday clashed during the burial of the husband of Singorwet Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joyce Korir.
The supporters of the two political rivals started hurling insults with each group demanding their candidate addresses them.
The police were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the supporters after a physical clash.
Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso accused the Bomet governor of hiring goons to heckle her at the funeral, remarks that were denied by the governor.
“Ruto is now being desperate after sensing defeat and he has resorted to hiring goons to heckle at a funeral. This behavior is uncalled for and is unheard of in our community,” she said.
On his part, Ruto accused Laboso of engaging in politics during funerals.
“She should stop engaging in politics during funerals. We should face each other outside funerals,” he said.
Laboso has announced her intention to unseat the Bomet governor using the Jubilee ticket after Ruto said he will be defending his seat using his newly launched Chama Cha Mashinani party (CCM).
