Despite painting Bomet town in synonymous Jubilee colors on Friday, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso was welcomed by almost empty streets in the South Rift Town.

The Sotik MP was submitting her nomination papers for IEBC clearance and is set to face Governor Isaac Rutto.

Earlier on Thursday, Governor Rutto, who was recently elevated by the opposition to fifth principal, had hosted a mammoth rally in Bomet Green stadium.

Seemingly untouched by the low turnout, Laboso, who was first elected to parliament in 2008 on an ODM ticket left to address a series of rallies across the county.

While NASA is banking on Rutto for delivery in South Rift, the Jubilee party has heavily invested on the second term MP to deliver from a region that has been lately seeing heavy political battles.

An opinion poll conducted by Radio Africa group showed that opposition leader Raila Odinga’s rating has increased from the initial 20 percent to 32 percent across Rift Valley region.

And in Bomet, the same poll projected Laboso as an outright winner should elections be held today having amassed 56 percent over Rutto’s 39 percent.
