An opinion poll done by The Star newspaper shows that Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto would lose significantly to National Assembly Speaker Joyce Laboso if elections are held today.

A similar study done by the same company a month ago before Jubilee nominations put Rutto at a pole position to win (39 percent) with Laboso following closely at 37 percent.

During Jubilee nominations, the Sotik MP handed former Konoin MP Julius Kones a heavy defeat in an exercise that Rutto accused Laboso of stage managing to confuse voters.

While Laboso would be seeking to stamp authority in a regional that has been branded a CCM zone, Rutto, who was appointed a fifth principal in opposition will be keen to tame Jubilee wave.

Laboso, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto was elected to parliament first in 2008 under ODM ticket in a by election following the death of her sister, Lonah Laboso.

The rebellious Bomet governor cut ties with Jubilee administration after 2013 election and formed Chama Cha Mashinani party.

In the latest opinion poll, Laboso scored 56 percent in comparison to Rutto’s 39 percent an indication that the NASA principal could be on his way out.

Although he his party has been offered a deputy premier secretary position should NASA win, Rutto opted to defend his seat.
