Speaking at Rongai centre on Wednesday led by Joseph Kone, the parents urged the government to set up boarding schools in the area.

“All public secondary and primary schools in Visoi ward are day schools and girls travel long distance to access education. This is an issue that all stakeholders need to discuss to see on how to improve on this,”they said.

His sentiments were echoed by Ruth Njuguna Kamau, a parent. She said it pains when a girl child drops out of school due to early pregnancies.

"We are appealing to the national Government and more our President and Deputy President to intervene and set up girls' schools in the ward as there is no single boarding school for girls," she added.

This comes even as the World celebrated International Day of the Girl child on Tuesday with this year’s Theme being Girls’ Progress = Goals’ Progress.
