Lack of national identity cards is hindering the effective implementation of the National Youth Programme in Nyaribari Chache area.
According to National Youth Service recruitment officer in the area Charles Ngetich, most of the youths interested with the programme have no identification cards hence hindering them from benefitting from the programme.
“Currently, we have almost 800 youths championing the programme but unfortunately, we are supposed to have about 1,000 youths in the whole programme,” he added.
He said most of the youths are complaining over the long periods taken to deliver identity cards which most of them said they have waited for over 6 months to get.
“I applied for my identity card early this year but to date I am yet to receive it hence I can’t join other youth in the NYS empowerment programme,” added Gideon Waziri a resident youth.
Though the officer called upon the government to ensure that youths have identification cards for them to benefit from the National Youth Service.
