A middle aged woman was on Friday arraigned in Kisii Law Court for dumping her child in a pit latrine.

Mary Nyang’ara allegedly committed the illegal offence in February 8 this year in Bokamu location, Kisii County. Locals alerted police officers immediately after a concerned local resident heard a young child crying inside the pit latrine.

Nyang’ara  pleaded guilty of the offence and requested Senior Residence Magistrate K.T. Kimtai to pardon her for her uncouth action.

Initially, the accused made a conflicting statements by claimed that the child accidentally came out while she was answering call of nature before admitting that she actually dumped the Angel in a pit latrine be she finally accepted her charges before the court of law.

The Senior Residence Magistrate ruled that Nyang’ara will be remanded until the time investigations shall have been completed.

Attempted murder is highly prohibited in the Kenyan constitution since it contravenes Penal Code contrary to Section 220 [b].

Residents have always been advised, through various Non-Governmental Organisations to shun such irresponsibilities of dumping children as it attracts severe punishment as stipulated in the Kenya Constitution.

“We will never tolerate damping of children any longer, that is why we always appeal to any member of the public to report such irresponsible mothers so that they face full force of the law,’’ warned Elizabeth Okere, FIDA activists.
