Monica Akinyi denied the charges before Resident Magistrate Janet Akiyo for the offence she is alleged to have committed in May 29 of last month in Kisumu.

It is alleged that the accused stole her workmate’s mobile phone at a local restaurant in Kisumu’s Central Business District.

Akinyi is alleged to have taken the phone and hid it in her purse before excusing herself from work. The lost phone incident was reported to Police who started investigation where they successfully tracked it and discovered it was at Akinyi’s home in Nyalenda.

Upon learning that Police were looking for her, she escaped leaving the stolen phone behind which was recovered by thePpolice.

Akinyi later surrendered herself to the Police on Sunday before being locked up awaiting court.

The accused told the court that there was a misunderstanding over the whole issue and she was willing to solve the matter outside the court if the complainant agreed.

However, the complainant Marion Onwoo declined to solve the issue outside the court. She claimed that she had trust in the courts to solve the case.

Akinyi was released on a cash bail of Sh5,000 pending the hearing of the case in June 29, this year.
