A simple rebellious letter to ODM party marked the beginning of intrigues within the IEBC that led to excommunication of top aide to Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Sunday.
Gekara Mouni, a senior aide to Chebukati was dismissed on ground that he has been leaking confidential information without consent to members of the public.
But allegations that he may have leaked two confidential memos that showed Chebukati demanding tough questions from CEO Ezra Chiloba may not after all be the reason why he was ejected.
It has been established that his decision to delete one Irene Nyakerario’s name from ODM list of MCA nominees to Nyamira County in replacement with his mother, Damaris Mouni, wrapped up the interesting scenarios in the electoral body.
“I had to write the letter to demand my right. My name was submitted and it was strange that I missed from the nomination list,” Nyakerario wrote in Nyamira ODM Youth League Whatsap group.
Her letter attracted attention from party echelons owing to the fact that she is familiar within the Orange party cycles, prompting investigations by top party lawyers.
“We went through records and found that something fishy happened within IEBC. We noticed it and immediately demanded that the nominee, Damaris Mouni was illegally featured into our list,” Lawyer Tony Moturi said.
What followed was court summons in which IEBC chair was named as respondent and he is said to have taken an action after thorough investigation that incriminated his aide, who illegally inserted the name of his mother y expunging Nyakerario’s name.
Nationally, Nyakerario is the founder of Daughters of Raila group which has been entrusted by NASA secretariat to lead campaigns across the country.
