Lagdera Member of Parliament Mohamed Shidiye has said he is much concerned about the rising tensions between two warring communities living along the Isiolo-Garissa border following renewed clashes over pasture and water.
Shidiye says the Boranas on the Isiolo side are staring at a possible clash with the Aulians who are on the Garissa side.
This comes just days after Welly Dekhow, the legislator's cousin was brutally murdered last Saturday at Eldere by armed bandits from Isiolo County who stole several livestock from his pen. Shidiye's brother was also injured in the attack.
Shidiye noted that in late last year, a Borana youth from Isiolo County was killed but his family was later compensated in line with the Modogashe declaration.
“That compensation was supposed to mark an end the long-standing hostility between the two communities, but the recent killings indicate all is not yet well,” Shidiye said.
Shidiye further directed the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to do more to promote mutual co-existence between the two pastoralist communities.
