Mombasa senatorial aspirant Yasser Bajaber has said the county has lagged behind in development because of worshiping certain leaders.
Bajaber said the current leadership does not deserve another term in office, since it has done little to change the lives of the residents.
The Ford Kenya secretary general who has declared support for Nyali MP Hezron Awiti's gubernatorial bid, said the region has reaped little from devolution, adding that the time for change has come.
“We have seen what hero worshiping and clamour for party has done in Mombasa. There is very little to show for devolution in Mombasa and that is why the current leadership has to be kicked out,” said Bajaber, as quoted by The Star.
On his part, Awiti said that his greatest desire is to ensure that the county's resources benefit all the residents and not just a few individuals.
“The Arabs brought trade to Mombasa and this is the reason why our county enjoys this diversity. What we are fighting for is justice to ensure that the resources are available to all residents and not a selected few,” he said.
Awiti is relying on the support of the Luo and a section of Kamba community living in Mombasa to dethrone Joho.
