Laikipia University will from January close down its Nairobi, Embu, Eldoret, Naivasha and Maralal campuses in a bid to consolidate its limited resources.
Vice Chancellor Francis Lelo has revealed that the decision was reached after they reviewed the threshold requirements put in place by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
"Due to challenges of meeting the requirements of the Commission for University Education, the university has decided to close the branches," the don said.
"The university shall issue transcripts up to the last semester of study. Teaching and examinations will continue uninterrupted in current campuses until December 2016," he added.
The VC also said that continuing students on the full-time programme were to relocate to the main campus in Nyahururu starting April 2017, adding that those unable to relocate would join other universities of their liking.
The CUE has given 11 university campuses a period of three months to conduct relocation of their operations to their main campuses or other accredited centres of learning.
The other institutions facing the same wrath are Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Nakuru) and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (Kisumu).
