An environmental water sustainability research project based at Egerton University in Nakuru County aims at addressing issues and challenges related to the management of Lake Naivasha.
The project is being spearheaded by various stakeholders in environmental sustainability including researchers from Egerton University, University of Nairobi and Twente/ ITC University of Netherlands.
According to the dean of the faculty of agricultural engineering at Egerton University Prof Daniel Kamau, the project is being sponsored by the government of the Netherlands to a tune of Sh100 million Euros. It provides a forum for sharing research information in environmental sustainability management in the two countries.
“The department of Agricultural Engineering has been collaborating with the Faculty of GeoInformation Science and Earth Observation at the University of Twente/ITC, Netherlands for about ten years,” he said.
Prof Kamau added that the project that is set to end in June next year was initiated through a proposal by post-graduate students from the two universities. The proposal was titled; Earth Observation and Integrated Assessment of Lake Naivasha.
It is foreseen by senior academic staff from the two universities and also the University of Nairobi.
