Speaking on Sunday at the park, Lake Nakuru National Park senior officer Maureen Musembi said that the continuing rains that are being experienced countrywide and increased human activities around Lake Nakuru have led to an abnormal rise in water levels at the lake.

Musembi said that the rising water levels have caused the lake to burst its banks something which has not only affected wildlife at the park but also the administrative offices which have been moved.

Musembi blamed the rising water levels at the lake on increased human activities and called on the government to act quickly to save the park from turning into a full lake.

“Lake Nakuru national park is at a big risk of being wiped out because the water levels have gone beyond the limits. If the government doesn’t do something, then we should be prepared to forget about this park because it will be submerged and turned into a lake,” said Musembi.

She added: “People have cultivated along the lake and this is what has contributed to the rising water levels. If these people are not moved, then we will still continue to see the park being submerged.”
