The search started on Monday morning with the other surviving band members and families of the deceased camped at the shores of Lake Victoria awaiting for the bodies of their loved ones and colleagues.

Mr Mutuku said a joint committee comprising of the Kenya Maritime Authority, Department of Fisheries and the county and national governments has been formed to search for the bodies.

He further said there was no need to wait further since the bodies could be in 'bad state now'.

We understand that ordinarily, the bodies can only start floating after a period of three days or so but as a government, we cannot wait for all those days, we have gotten five boats which are going to be used in the operation and we also have a budget to cater for the welfare of the  families and survivors,” he said.

According to one survivor, Nicholas Ochieng, the survivors should not leave the shores until the bodies of the fellow band members are found.

This is as per the Luo culture, he said.
