The State, Kisumu County government in collaboration with the World Bank have spearheaded the construction of Lake Victoria ring road to enhance economic growth within Western region.

The ring road, which is part of the Northern Corridor Roads project, will cover Busia-Kisumu-Dunga to Kendu bay and is expected to boost transportation of goods from Busia border through Kisumu County.

Speaking during a review status meeting of the northern corridor project with the World Bank and Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma said the project funded by the World Bank will expand businesses along the lake region as well as strengthen transport systems in the region.

“This will enhance transport connections in the region and improve access to the airport which is very important to the eight counties bordering Kisumu County,” said Governor Ranguma.

Ranguma added that the merger will also spearhead faster completion of the roads to free the city from traffic challenges.

''Additional bypasses will open up Kisumu for business and greater economic growth. There will be a larger bypass dual-carriage way from the by pass to Mamboleo to join the road from Miwani,'' he added.

The project will also see the relocation of Kisumu Port to Dunga. He said the plan is to have Kisumu’s infrastructure project face the lake and have lake front type of investment.

''The port could be moved to Dunga or across the lake next to the airport. Those are two options we have considered,'' said Governor Ranguma.
