The county government of Lamu has pledged to reward nurses who did not take part in the ongoing nationwide health workers' strike.
Speaking on Thursday at King Fajad Hospital, Lamu Health CeC Mohamed Kombo lauded the decision by the nurses not to join their colleagues in downing their tools, arguing that medics have a noble calling to save lives before "chasing money."
"We laud the spirit of unity and great sense of humanity exhibited by our nurses. We will reward them for the same," he said.
"We will stand with the nurses for they have proved beyond doubt that they have indeed been called to save lives. We shall do everything to ensure they work comfortably and effectively. Whatever will be decided in Nairobi, we shall also do the same for our nurses here," he added.
He, however, did not reveal the kind of reward the nurses are set to receive, noting that "it will be a good one."
