Lamu Governor Fahim Twaha has pledged to tackle insecurity by working closely with the central government to ensure peace and calm are restored in the county.
This, he noted, is key for the growth of key sectors in the county among them tourism, fishing and agriculture.Consequently, he has placed security as one of the main agenda he plans to address in his first 100 days in office, the Nation has reported.Twaha who was sworn-in on Friday as the second county boss, said attacks by the al-Shabaab were affecting tourism as well as development activities.He also said he will foster unity among residents noting that Lamu is a cosmopolitan region and that people should celebrate their cultural diversities.“I am happy that I am standing here today as your governor. I am aware that some didn't vote for me, but I promise to serve you all. We extend a hand of friendship to losers and I invite them to work with us in moving this county forward,” he said.Twaha who won the just-concluded polls on a Jubilee Party ticket after defeating Issa Timamy of ANC, said he will also address the issues of title deeds, healthcare, garbage and water. His deputy Abdulhakim Aboud said they were ready to work with everyone regardless of their party affiliations, and asked losers to join them in developing the county.The swearing-in ceremony was held at Mkunguni Square in Lamu town and presided over by Justice Jackline Kamau.
