A section of leaders from Lamu have asked Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa to apologize for linking politicians to the terror attacks that were recently witnessed in the county.

Led by Lamu Women Rep Shakilla Abdalla, ODM’s Rishad Amana and Hassan Albeity, the politicians called upon National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to investigate and prosecute Marwa. This comes after Marwa alleged that politicians from the region have been funding the Al-Shaabab militia group to cause havoc as we head to the August elections. The politicians argue that Marwa’s remarks are likely to trigger instability in different parts of the county. The leaders want Marwa to retract the statements and apologize to the public over the same. She further said it is unacceptable for security officers to make speculations when they have been tasked to ensure stability in the country.“How can a man of his stature just wake up and tell people that politicians in Lamu are funding terrorists. The people of Lamu don’t need narratives, we want security. If he knows who these politicians are let him come forward and name them,” said Shakilla, as quoted by The Star.Their sentiments come after President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a directive to police officers to use maximum force in the fight against terror in the region.
