The Coastal counties of Lamu and Tana River are among 14 devolved units set to benefit from solar electricity.
The World Bank funded project will see over 430,000 households powered.
Lamu Governor Issa Timamy at a press briefing said governors from the 14 counties have already met World Bank officials to finalise the deal.
In Lamu, besides the households, he said 15 schools and 121 hospitals will also be lit.
"Already, some areas of Lamu like Kiwanyu, Kiunga, Ndau, Boni, Basuba and Pandangano where residents are not connected to the national grid have been mapped and will get solar," he said as quoted by Daily Nation.
Data from Kenya Power indicates that majority of Kenyans still have no access to electricity- making it difficult for them to do business that wholly relies on power.
According to the State-owned electricity supplier, only 4.8 million Kenyans have access to electricity- the figure having risen by 116 percent from 2013's 2.26 million.
There are currently efforts by the Jubilee administration to connect more Kenyans to the national grid although the efforts have been hampered by the politicization of the electricity connectivity projects.
