Two men and a woman were today arraigned in a court in Nakuru to face charges of obtaining money fraudulently from a women group in pretext of selling a piece of land to the group. Presiding Chief Magistrate Felix Kombo was told by the prosecution that the accused Bonface Simiyu, 56,Lawrence Njoroge,43,and Nancy Githinji 35 on diverse dates of November 2013 fraudulently collected sh.300,000 in pretext of selling to Mavuno Women Group a piece of land located at pipeline area of Nakuru town. The prosecution desk averred that the accused issued the officials of the group with a fake land title deed on November 27,2013 after receiving a cheque of sh.300,000 before relocating from a building they used as an office in Nakuru town. The court heard that the women group members reported the matter to police after they were restrained by the owner of the land from initiating a development project on the land and further discovering that the title deed was not genuine. The magistrate was told that the accused were separately arrested by police officers from Nakuru Central Police station after a prolonged investigation. One of the suspects namely Simiyu was arrested at a bar in Nakuru town on December 15 this year and helped police arrest the other accused persons. They denied the charges and were released on a sh.100,000 bond each. The case will be heard on January 15.
