A middle aged man was on Monday morning arraigned in a Thika court for allegedly having fraudulently obtaining cash. Dennis Karanja, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Stephen Mbungi allegedly defrauded Julius Kinyanjui Sh 1 million in the pretence of selling to him two hectares of land. Karanja who allegedly committed the crime on October 10, 2014 in Kabati, Muranga however argued that the amount of money deposited in his Kenol Equity bank branch was Sh 800, 000. Kinyanjui told the court that the accused came with a hand written agreement which did not have the authenticity of a recognised lawyer which they both signed. The court’s prosecutor Inspector Susan Kariuki asked for more time in order to scrutinise the said piece of land transaction receipts and banking statements of the accused. The accused however pleaded not guilty. The hearing was fixed on May 6, 2015.
