Residents of Landless Estate in Thika have decried the regular sewage leakages which they say have rendered the area inhabitable due to foul smell.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, the residents demanded an immediate fixing of the sewerage system while threatening dire consequencies if the problem is not addressed.
"We are tired of these endless sewage leaks that happen everyday and nothing seems to be done. The air around this area is full of bad stench," Jackson Wambua, a resident said.
Michael Ndirangu, a landlord said that sometimes the sewage overflows to his plot.
"Tenants are always complaining to me that there are sewage leaks yet the sewer line does not even serve my plot," he lamented.
However, a Kiambu County Water and Sewerage Field Engineer Paul Kiarie who was in the area accused the residents of blocking the sewer line with objects leading to frequent bursts.
"We understand that the sewerage system here needs an upgrade to serve the increasing population, but residents must also be responsible enough not to throw objects that may block the sewer line. We are almost here every week for the same problem which is also equally tiring for us," Kiarie said.
