The officers went around the slum of Kibera inspecting the state of toilets tenants use at rental houses.

The public health officers from Nairobi County were tipped off by tenants about the bad state of the toilets.

The landlord,  James Kamau is said to have run away when he spotted the health officers accompanied by two police officers.

Benjamin Mutua a tenant said that despite the efforts they have been making to the landlord to construct good toilets for them bore no fruits since he did not respond in time.

"We decided to inform the health officers of the state of the toilets after suffering for some time now. It is good they have witnessed the state and it is out hope that the landlord now will act. We pay for rent, water, and electricity, why he is not improving the state of the toilets is well known by him," said Mutua.

"It is very bad for tenants to use such bad state of toilets. This is a risk to human health. Landlords should ensure the state of the environment is conducive to the people if not so the ministry of health will not hesitate to take a legal action", said Benard Ondimu a health officer.

Benard added that landlords who do not maintain toilets used by tenants will be arrested.
