Landlords in Nakuru West have complained over the prepaid water metre kits in the area claiming they were not working.
The tenants claimed that the kits broke immediately after being installed last year hence they cannot get any water in the area.
Speaking during a national sharing forum on public health at the Cathay hotel in Nakuru, the landlords said that there was need to revisit the initiative.
“The kits were meant to deal with the water shortage in the area. This would ensure that landlords got the exact amount of cash they fed their machines with. However, all the metres are currently broken,” said Jane Mburu.
John Gitau, a landlord in the area, cited that some men claiming to be from Nakuru water and sanitation services company had demanded money for their repair.
“We have been giving them money thinking that they were officers and would repair the broken meters but none has worked so far,” he said.
Filda Kwamboka, a landlord, urged the water distribution authority to investigate the quality of the meters that were being distributed.
“Our tenants are always fighting us saying that we conned them especially when we feed the metres and no water comes forth,” she added.
