Nakuru County Senior official in the Ministry Finance, Income Tax department Ziporah Wangia has warned Landlords in Nakuru who use public venues to advertise their rental houses without permission.
Wangia while talking to this writer in her office on Friday, warned that the department had noted with concern illegal outdoor advertisements within residential areas by landlords and property dealers for vacant houses and buildings that do not bear the county government’s official stamp.
She observed that many of the illegal publicity perpetrators were basing their tax evading activities on assumptions that revenue officials are not privy to what goes on in residential areas.
According to the county government official, the county government loses approximately Sh30 million annually in illegal advertisements and publicity activities across the county.
“We are giving out a warning to people who do not pay for outdoor advertisements and publicity items. Most of these people are landlords who print posters and signboards and put them up in public avenues in residential areas. We are soon going to enforce our regulations and avoid tax evading,’’ warned Wangia.
She further noted that the vice was also being perpetrated by traditional doctors and magicians, tuition service providers among other business people located in urban residential and rural areas within the county.
