Landlords and small-scale traders have been blamed for diverting water leading to a shortage in Eldoret town and its environs.
According to the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas) Commercial Services head Timothy Bett, 40 percent of water meant for Eldoret residents is lost.
“It is sad that there some individual getting water illegally leading to the company losing 40 percent of its water annually translating to over 20 million shillings,” he said in Eldoret town, Thursday.
“We have put stringent measures to ensure that this comes to an end and I urge the public to subscribe to our services and report anyone involved in illegal water connection and promise to take action against them,” he added.
He reiterated that the company had put in place plans to ensure that the area is supplied with enough water.
“We will dig more boreholes and rehabilitate more dams to cater for water shortage,” he said.
