Kisumu County Assembly members now want Landlords to provide information and documents of tenants to the county law enforcement officers to curb the rampant insecurity in the county.
In a motion tabled by Ahero Ward MCA Maurice Aloo and seconded by James Were, the Landlords are supposed to provide information about their tenants’ National ID, reference from a registered Estate Agent they had live in their houses earlier on, certificate of good conduct before occupation of the house and the number of people occupying the house at a given time.
MCA Aloo said that security has become a challenge both to the National and county governments adding that frequent attacks on citizen by thugs, terrorists should be addressed immediately.
“Security matter is a great concern and requires urgent attention or else the economic achievement which we are proud of will be lost," said MCA Aloo.
He added, “Mr. Speaker it is common knowledge and evidence that these thugs live among us and a first step it is important to know our neighbours and people staying with us.”
Nominated MCA Farida Salim on her part said that tenants should also provide two referees with telephone numbers as part of basic information requirement.
"For further reference it is critical to have two referees who know these tenants quite well since National ID and certificate of good conduct alone may not help enough," said Farida.
Nominated MCA Jane Omolo said that the county should implement the Nyumba Kumi Initiative started by the National government to curb insecurity.
