Athi River deputy county commissioner Geoffrey Omoding’ has urged landlords to install CCTV cameras in their property to help curb crime.

Omoding’said installation of cameras in business and residential premises should be encouraged in the entire sub-county since they easy work of police in fighting crime.

Addressing the press at his office in Athi River town on Tuesday, Omoding’ said it takes efforts of all residents to ensure safety of their property and themselves.

He said CCTV cameras can help a great deal in reducing criminal incidences in the area especially during the Christmas festive season.

“CCTV cameras have saved lots of lives and property in various incidences across the country, this has been proven in several scenarios,” said Omoding’.

Omoding’ said more cameras should be installed in residential houses, business premises and in streets as a strategy of exposing criminals.

He said the cameras can help notice criminals before they commit their criminal activities since most of their operations are done while out of watch.

Omoding’ said landlords should support the Nyumba Kumi initiative by ensuring all their tenants join hands and participate in community policing.

He said landlords should interrogate and keep records of their tenants and clients to avoid harboring criminals.

Omoding’ said those with property in Athi River sub-county and its neighborhoods should be cautious in businesses which go around their buildings.

He said all residents should be cautious and always insist on knowing identities of people around them.

“Ensure you know your neighbors and if possible report to police suspiciously looking strangers, you should not be coward away even if you do not have proof of them being criminals. The burden of proof is to the police,” said Omoding.’

Omoding’ said landlords and their tenants should cooperate with security agents to make their residences and neighborhoods safer and secure.
