The call was made by the area fire brigade supervisor Duncan Kamatu who said the measure would protect the property from unnecessary fire outbreaks.

Kamatu noted that though the department had successfully ensured several commercial premises especially shops, supermarkets, hotels, bars and restaurants in the region were installed with the important devices, residential houses had been forgotten.

"We in the previous year successfully managed to convince operators of businesses such as shops, supermarkets, shopping malls, hotels, bars and restaurants to install fire fighting extinguishers. The few adamant ones were seriously pushed and complied," said Kamatu.

Kamatu who addressed the press at his office in Athi River town on Wednesday said that fire outbreak instances had reduced in the entire sub-county lately.

He attributed the achievement to more informed society on fire emergencies and precautions alongside corporation from the side of residents citing high numbers of fire fighting extinguishers purchased and installed in several commercial premises across the sub-county.

Kamatu urged all the residents to take it upon themselves to secure their homes alongside other property against fire outbreaks.
