Landlords in Garissa town have been urged to exercise caution and vet their prospective tenants before housing them.
Northern region coordinator Mahmoud Saleh has said that landlords should be wary of suspected Al-Shabaab assailants and sympathizers who may rent houses to conceal their weapons as they plan to stage attacks.
Saleh said that since he took charge of the regional security docket, a large number of sophisticated weapons have been recovered from several rental houses terrorists in Soko Ngo’mbe and the Garissa Ndogo estates.
The administrator further directed landlords to submit tenants’ personal identification details, including their ID card numbers, phone numbers and even their photographs for accountability.
He warned that landlords found harbouring criminals will be prosecuted.
