All public schools in Nakuru have been directed to demarcate all their land to protect them from land grabbers.
County lands executive Racheal Maina says that all schools should ensure that their lands are protected by erecting fences and perimeter walls across the schools.
Speaking when she visited Jamhuri Primary School on Tuesday afternoon, Maina said that land that is not demarcated gave land grabbers an opportunity to invade and grab school land.
“Most schools have huge parcels of land which are open and lack fences or perimeter walls and this gives the grabbers a way of getting into the school land and claiming ownership. All schools must ensure that they demarcate their land to protect it from grabbers and we will help in that course to ensure that our schools are protected and our children have enough space to learn from and play,” said Maina.
She said the county government will protect school land as well as any other public land from grabbers by suing all means possible.
Maina lauded the national land commissions move to issue title deeds to all schools saying that the move will help in securing and protecting school lands from grabbers
“If all schools can get title deeds then it will be hard for anyone to invade school property and claim its ownership because the title deed will act as the sole security for the school land,” she said.
The CeC was at the school to launch a tree planting exercise.
