Landscapers and garden managers in Nakuru have been urged to invest in drought resistant plants in their activities.
This will help them to provide sustainability in the sub sector. Speaking to Nakuru Based Landscapers and Interior Designers Association (NLIDA) Nakuru County Lands, Housing and Physical Planning Chief Officer, Daniel Langat, said this will help them to be all rounded.
Langat observed that the current dry season being experienced in the county was an eye opener to housing and physical planning stakeholders, hence need to come up with sustainable plans that will ensure that players in the industry reap maximally despite the season.
He noted that the current dry season had put most landscapers and interior designers out of business because developers were shying away from undertaking projects during the dry season due to water scarcity.
“You should adopt drought resistant plants because they can be planted during dry seasons. They require little water to survive hence property developers can seek your services throughout the year without shying off during dry seasons,’’ advised Langat.
He noted that the sub sector had a potential for growth since the region was experiencing increased property development levels due to the devolved system of governance.
The Association’s Chairman, Patrick Wachira, asked the government to track down illegal and bogus land -scapers and interior designers ruining market for authentic practitioners in the county.
