A section of Lanet / Umoja residents in Bahati Sub County have expressed concern over the presence of stray dogs at Umoja Shopping Centre.
The residents allege that the shopping centre has in recent times witnessed an increased number of stray dogs.
Joseph Mungai, a businessman, says that the influx of stray dogs may lead to a health crisis.
“The presence of stray dogs is putting the lives of the residents at risk of contracting rabies,” said Mungai.
Jane Wairimu, a tailor at the centre says that the situation may get out of hand if no urgent action is taken.
“These stray dogs you see roaming here are not vaccinated and they pose great danger to our children,” said Wairimu.
The residents have urged veterinary officers from Nakuru County to kill the dogs.
“We want these stray dogs to be killed before they spread rabies. Dog owners should also ensure that their dogs are tamed and not roaming the streets,”said Stephen Kimani, a bodaboda operator.
The residents however said that they would take law in their hands if the veterinary officers fail to honour their request to have them killed.
“The residents can’t wait for a catastrophe to strike so that an action can be taken. We will kill all these stray dogs,” said Susan Kamau.
