Talking to this writer at Umoja Estate after inspecting two donkey carcasses that were discovered on Saturday morning by residents, Chief Kariuki expressed his anger over the rising livestock insecurity in the area and promised to initiate a community intelligence group to assist his office and police in unearthing the syndicate perpetrators.

He noted that the suspected thieves were targeting donkeys, sheep and goat. He warned local butchery owners against buying un inspected or illegal meat products. He feared that the suspects could be operating an illegal meat supply business.

“This trend is worrying and I am asking residents to be on the lookout against these crooks. I will form an investigative team comprising residents to help my office and police unearth this syndicate. I think they are operating an illegal meat business but the law will soon catch up with them,’’ said Kariuki.

According to the Chief, several Lanet area residents have in the past one month reported their missing livestock and called upon residents to take proper safety measures of their livestock especially during night hours.
